Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels

These savory pinwheels are a perfect appetizer or snack, combining flaky puff pastry with savory ham and melted cheese. They’re quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

· 1 sheet (about 8–10 oz) puff pastry, thawed
· 8 slices ham (deli-style or honey ham work well)
· 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or Swiss are great choices)
· 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard or whole grain mustard
· 1 egg (for egg wash)
· Optional: 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or chives
· Optional: 1 teaspoon garlic powder or smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare pastry
    · Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    · On a lightly floured surface, roll the puff pastry into a roughly 10×12 inch rectangle.
  2. Add filling
    · Spread mustard evenly over the pastry, leaving a ½-inch border.
    · Layer ham slices evenly over the mustard.
    · Sprinkle shredded cheese over the ham.
    · If using, sprinkle with herbs or spices.
  3. Roll and chill
    · Starting from the longer side, tightly roll the pastry into a log.
    · Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in freezer for 10–15 minutes to make slicing easier.
  4. Slice and bake
    · Remove log from freezer and slice into ½-inch rounds using a sharp knife.
    · Place slices on prepared baking sheet, spaced about 1 inch apart.
    · Whisk egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush lightly over pinwheels.
  5. Bake
    · Bake for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.
    · Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Tips

· For extra flavor, mix a little grated Parmesan into the cheese blend.
· Can be assembled ahead, sliced, and kept in the fridge overnight before baking.
· Serve warm with a dipping sauce like honey mustard or ranch.
